I bet the New Yorkers out there are still celebrating. In
any case, it was definitely a piece of history
that occurred last night, and I'm proud to say my very own brother bought a new
flatscreen HDTV from Best Buy just in time for me to watch the big game in Hi
Def. That's certainly one way to get the
entire family to come over to your house. Needless to say, he was also very smart about
not compulsively getting the Best Buy warranty, but buying a SquareTrade warranty for half the price and four times the quality. What can I say? I teach my brother well.
We also saw a fixed increase in revenue this season by tying
in our warranties into a new Super Bowl tradition: HDTV sales. People went out and got a great deal, then
came home, logged in to SquareTrade, and got another good deal.
Oh, and I have to say my favorite commercial was the parade
balloons fighting over the Coke, with Charlie Brown (finally!) winning in the
end. Quite original. GoDaddy's commercial wasn't as spectacular, but it led to
over 10 million hits on their site in just one day. Nice! Feel free to leave a Comment below on what
your favorite commercial was this year.
Ok, enough SuperBowl talk. A lot has happened in the past
few weeks, and eBay was certainly not to be outdone by some football game where
big news is concerned. First, Meg Whitman announced that she will be retiring
this year, and followed it up with an announcement that they are going to change the fee structures yet again, but hopefully for
the better. They're eliminating gallery
fees, setting the PowerSeller qualification bar higher, and giving PowerSellers
more perks in the form of fee discounts and additional PayPal protection. It
looks like current president and CEO-elect John Donahue really wants to start
his administration off with a bang, but only time will tell if this new commitment
to PowerSellers is long term or a mid-winter fling.
Last, but certainly not least, SquareTrade also made the
news recently. Word of our warranty’s top-notch service and value is really making
the rounds. L.A. Times reporter Michelle Quinn recently dropped by for an interview
with SquareTrade CEO Steve Abernethy about the state of the current warranties
industry. We also caught wind of two news stations (KVUE in Texas and WBRE in
Wilkes-Barre) doing
impromptu segments on SquareTrade warranties after hearing how satisfied
customers were with it. You can watch the first one here , and the second one here.
Keep on passing the good word, people!
